Entertainment and culture is never at a lull around Boiling Springs. An afternoon at the museum, an evening at the theatre, a day at the symphony or an hour at a writer’s workshop are all just a part of Spartanburg’s art scene. Local writers in the Hub City Writers Project present readings at downtown coffeehouses, hosting occasional festivals and other public events. Spartanburg is home to fantastic community theater and dramatic arts. The Reid Playhouse, Spartanburg Little Theater, Youth Theater, Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium, and the USC Upstate Performing Arts Center provide stages where stars are born. For football devotees, the area also plays host to the Carolina Panthers summer training camp.
For family fun or an afternoon getaway, the Roger Milliken Research and Customer Center is one of the largest corporate green spaces in the U.S., spanning more than 600 acres of trees, ponds, meadows and fountains. There is an on-site arboretum, while area runners and walkers enjoy several fitness trails. With plenty of open space, Milliken is a great spot for picnicking, ball games or relaxing. Lake Bowen also offers residents an afternoon respite perfect for fishing, boating, picnicking, or even just for a lazy afternoon nap. Known as a reservoir, Lake Bowen features gorgeous scenic views of the mountains while offering many opportunities for water recreational activities. For those looking to spend the weekend at the lake, many vacation homes and cabins are located near or on the lakefront.
